The Town Council provides a number of services to local people, including:

  • Provision of allotments at New Street and Shoulderway Lane
  • Maintenance and  upkeep of the cemetery chapel and cemetery grounds
  • Clark House - which as well as being used by the Town Council is also used by many local business, charity and voluntary organisations
  • Litter and dog bins
  • Maintenance and provision of play equipment
  • The Forum newsletter to all homes and businesses in the town
  • The Town Council  website (Shipston Online) which provides information to local residents and visitors alike
  • On a contract basis for other councils the Town Council also carries out some grass cutting, hedge trimming and cleansing
  • Grants to local organisations, in the past year these have included Shipston in Bloom, Shipston Proms and the Sports Club

The council employs five staff members (including the Town Clerk) to administer and carry out all of these services.  Additionally, Shipston Town Council has a statutory right to be consulted about all planning applications within the Town, and works with other bodies, such as the District and County Councils to ensure that Shipston’s voice is heard and that we receive a fair share of available resources.  They also have contracts with the Shipston Forum Editor and the Web Designer.

Town Council meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month, at 7pm in Clark House, off West Street, Members of the public are very welcome to attend, and there is a short period of time at each meeting for the public to ask questions or put points of view.

There are 13 Town Councillors who, unlike District or County Councillors, do not receive any form of payment or expenses for their work.  The Council is chaired by the Town Mayor (Councillor Simon Welch for 2010/2011).

The Town Mayor, holds a surgery at Clark House every 2nd Saturday of the month, often with Councillor Richard Cheney (District Councillor) and other Town Councillors.

Elections are held every four years, the next being due in 2012.

If you would like any more information about the services Shipston Town Council provides, how it works, or how to stand for election in the future, then contact the Town Clerk on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
