Shipston Proms 2008
Its a shame to see that this year The Proms has almost forgotten the 16 to 20 years old. There is really very little (mentioned in the flyer) that would really appeal to that particular group. Although, I am now rather passed that age I would have been looking for something a bit more ‘on the edge’ or contemporary than what has been considered as entertainment for all. It has also been unfortunate that some people and establishments have been ignored in the advertising when they have fully supported this yearsevent. The Proms is fantastic for Shipston but perhaps some younger input would be helpful, if not vital, next year.
China Kitchen Update?
Does anyone know when the China Kitchen is opening it’s doors again?
It looks ready to open but I have not heard anything, nor spoken to anyone that knows… do you know?
The Aftermath…
So its been what, 12 weeks or thereabouts since our new neighbours moved in by our market town and I was just thinking, what’s everyone’s opinion since they’ve been here? What impact do you believe they have had on the town and has their arrival been as bad as first thought or do we believe the worst is yet to come? What are your opinions on the impact the gypsies have had upon the town and what’s the latest in terms of trying (if we still are) to remove the gypsies from their ‘new home’?
Wanted…
I need to rent a house in Shipston. Either 2 or 3 bedrooms. If anyone knows of a propert please let me know!
Thanks.
Councillor Philip Vial’s Web site
I have followed the link to visit his website and I am appalled that this leads to his party political web site. The job of being a councillor is that of best serving the needs of town people not the needs of your political party, they should be kept very, very seperate. This kind of blatant misrepresentation of what our town council should be about is very wrong and as such, I feel that he should not have his position as town councillor linked to his Liberal Democrat website

Refuse Collection
The District Council have given Cllr. Richard Cheney the following information. Richard is keen to hear of any problems local residents have, so please contact him directly or comment here. As most people will know Richard campaigned against the new refuse collection system.
Philip
Here follows the memo from the Council:
- Firstly all homes are being supplied with two standard size wheeled bins, one grey for general waste and one with a blue lid for dry recycling. They are not to use these bins until August.
A new way to contact a councillor!
If anyone would like to contact a Town Councillor, and try out my (very) new site - try:

Comments (even bad ones) are much appreciated.

Containing the Youth - Shipston Proms.
Hi - I saw the note about blocking off access points to the Proms in the town centre because of problems with underage drinking. Is this a good idea and will it work? Who will be ‘the security’? Why don’t parents of the ‘very young memebers…’ know where they are and what they are up to. I think it’s a shame it has to be policed as such - why not use ’security’ to round up drunken youths and take them home - the new legislation is there for police to take booze off them and there’s talk of prosecuting parents. It’s always the same faces at these things, everyone knows who they are, so why not warn these parents to control their kids drinking and behaviour instead of ‘ barracading’ the town centre? Tell them that, they ARE infact responsible for thier children, not the rest of communitys responsibility to have to change behaviour to fit.
Shipston survey……..
Hello!
I am currently studying at Stratford college and undertaking a Geogeraphy project investigating the growth/develpment of Shipston over the last 10-20 yrs. I would be greatful if anyone could provide me with feedback/opinions regarding the town and how it has changed during this time.
I’m particulalry interested in how you rate the services of the town (i.e. transport, medical, leisure and shopping facilities), and how you would improve them, if necessary i.e. whether you think they are adequate for the size of the town;

Allotment Share Anyone?
I wondering if anyone on the Blog has an allotment that they don’t use, or would be willing to share part of it (on a temporary basis) while I’m on the waiting list to get a plot from the Council. I’ve seen that some of these are very large and are not always used to their full capacity and I’d hate to see it wasted. Willing to pay % of rent or share Veg crop with plot owner!
Thank you from Richard Cheney
First I would like to thank all those who supported me in the election last week, a close result and it does prove the point that every vote counts!
I would like to assure SILVE and all the people of Shipston that I am available to answer all questions and take up issues at all times, I add my contact details below. This includes responding to the Shipston Blog!

Flood survey
Some residents may be contacted next week as part of a survey being carried out for the Cabinet Office into the lessons of last summer’s floods.
The survey will focus on the performance of insurance companies in dealing with claims etc. Individual answers will be entirely confidential.
Altogether, the researchers aim to contact about 620 people across the country by telephone or face to face. Shipston is one of several areas selected.
Shopping in Shipston
I have just spent yet another Saturday afternoon shopping in Stratfords Large Supermarket as yet again I can not get the things I need in Shipston I want to spend the extra hour I waste travelling to Stratford, with my family not in my car. I have a Large family and work full time. I don’t see why I should pay extra for small packets in our convenience stores (Sommerfield is NOT a Supermarket it is a convenience store hence higher prices this came from a member of staff !). After doing a few checks on my shopping of £80.00 in Stratford it would cost £89.00 in Shipston

Missing Worm!
Has anyone seen our worm? Our ornamental worm was a key feature of our front garden in The Sidings and a cause of much amusement to passing school children and concern to passing dogs! It went missing over the weekend - we suspect Saturday night. It comes in 3 parts. If anyone knows or suspects the whereabouts of worm we would be grateful if you could get in touch. Many thanks!
Thank you
Can I thank all those who voted for me on May 1 – I greatly appreciate their support.
Obviously I am disappointed by the result. But it was a privilege to represent Shipston on the District Council for eight years and to have contributed to all the support the Council has given to the town in that time and to many important local initiatives.
