Between 7pm and 7.30pm last night (13th December '11) there was an incredibly loud bang and then all the lights went out for a few minutes. The assumption is that this was thunder, yet there was no follow on thunder and there have been no reports or any lightning sightings an and no rain followed soon after.
Can anyone confirm or deny that this was only thunder, and if it was more than this, perhaps a lighting strike, was there any damage as a result?
Over 300 people, from all quarters of the Shipston community, attended a public exhibition, at the Townsend Hall last week (30Nov-1stDec), to comment and share views on initial proposals for a possible, mixed-use development, including a supermarket and petrol station, on a site to the west of town.
Visitors to the exhibition viewed and considered recommendations, presented by Ainscough Strategic Land (ASL), which has an option on the site. ASL specialises in researching and delivering appropriate and sustainable local developments, through working closely and consulting thoroughly with the local community. Draft, outline plans presented were based on initial residents’ feedback and comment, collated over the past year and Shipston residents were asked for their further input into how the proposed site on Campden Road could be developed, to best meet the town’s current and evolving, future needs.
For those of you who attended and those who didn't, we would like to know your opinion on the proposals. Please comment below...

Stratford District is currently watched over by 87 CCTV cameras, six of which are in Shipston. Sufficient funds are not currently available to offer a 24/7 live monitoring service, which would mean employing at least five operators. Parish representatives across the district may be asked to contribute to the cost of the service. Shipston Town Council is concerned about spending money on a service so heavily focused on Stratford Town Centre and recognises that there are questions over the effectiveness of CCTV.
The Town Council is now asking residents for their views on whether investing in CCTV is something you want your money spent on.
The last Shipston Town Directory was published in the year 1999 which included a map on the front cover and listed local residents numbers and addresses as well as local businesses and their details, as well as the Town Council members at the time. It also included facts and figures relating to Shipston and formed a nice momento of the town that year. Page 1 of 4
